SAMWELLY Rhobi Pristiana

Women's rights

Description

Rhobi has been campaigning for several years against genital mutilation in communities in Tanzania. In 2017, she founded Hope for Girls and Women (Matumaini kwa Wasichana na Wanawake in Swahili), an association that daily welcomes young women and girls who have suffered these mutilations or who have escaped. Determined to help and protect young girls from this violence, she has created "safe places", kinds of shelters that allow these girls to continue their studies and escape these practices. "I wanted the girls to have the support that I never had to say no. Let them realize that they can have control over their bodies and lives.”

"Back in my country, I would like to put into practice the new skills I have learned here."

"The origin of my fight is my experience as a survivor."
