Testimonials from women human rights defenders

Published April 15, 2024

"On December 10, 2021, on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the launch of the Marianne Initiative with the aim of strengthening France's action towards human rights defenders around the world. (...) As of January 2022, fifteen women from every continent, from China to Colombia, via Afghanistan, Belarus, Iraq, Palestine, Turkey, Tanzania or El Salvador, committed to human rights in their home countries, have been welcomed to France as part of the Marianne Initiative." Laura Lohéac, president of the association

The book "Women in Struggle brings together the testimonies, collected by Grand Continent, of the laureates of the first class of the Marianne Initiative. Through these accounts, these women rights defenders look back on their respective careers and commitments to the promotion and protection of human rights, linked to the geopolitical context in which they operate.

"The Marianne Association is proud to contribute to the production of this book, which brings together the inspiring testimonies of the winners of the Class of 2022." Laura Lohéac, president of the association
