Initiative Marianne, act IV

On December 10th 2023, during the 75th anniversary of the Human Rights Declaration at the Palais de Chaillot, French Republic President, Emmanuel Macron, highlighted once again the essential role of the Marianne Initiative in its support to human rights defenders :

« We got the chance to meet the laureates of the two first cohortes of this Initiative et I want to express my respect for the fighters for freedom that you are ; being able to host during six months on our land et keep long term links of friendship with France honores us and we will keep doing it (...).We created the Marianne Initiative to give each year freedom of calm, a harbour to 15 fighters, before continuing their fight in their country.

Following a selection among more than 460 applications, 14 new laureates came to France in the beggining of January to be part of the class of 2025 of the Marianne Initiative, an intense program of six months for human rights defenders.

On January 20th 2025, during the official launching event of this fourth edition, the laureates have been hosted at the house of the Barreau de Paris by Laura Lohéac, president of the association, Isabelle Rome, ambassador for human rights and Mathilder Brunon, chief of cabinet of the DIAIR. The laureates had the opportunity to meet all the actors involved in the initiative all along the program to support them in their activities and in the strenghtening of their action capacities.

Then, on February 12th 2025, at the Collège de France, they could introduce their fights and current projects in front of many partners of the Marianne Initiative, such as the Plateforme Droits de l’Homme, Agir ensemble pour les droits humains, the Alliance pour la Préservation des Forêts, the Commission nationale consultative des droits de l’homme, Ensemble contre la peine de mort, Amnesty International France, the Fédération Internationale pour les Droits Humains, Reporters sans frontières or the Barreau de Paris.

Le programme de formation continue jusqu’à la fin du mois de juin, et sera ponctué de très nombreuses rencontres avec des personnes inspirantes évoluant dans le champ de la défense des droits humains et environnementaux et d’interventions des lauréats lors d’évènements institutionnels de haut niveau.

L’association Marianne est fière de poursuivre son engagement aux côtés des 14 lauréats qui, de par leurs engagements, sont une source d’inspiration pour toutes et tous :

Mehedi AL AMIN (Bangladesh), Hernando CHINDOY (Colombie), Fiorella HERRERA (Pérou), Nancy HOUSTION (Kenya), Siyabulela JENTILE (Afrique du Sud), Gemma JONES (Guinée équatoriale), Tamar KINTSURASHVILI (Géorgie), Jonathan MENDEZ (El Salvador), Mathieu NARENDRA (Madagascar), Frederic OBIANG (Gabon), Fabiana QUISPE CONDORI (Bolivie), Vascos SIKIMINYWA (République Démocratique du Congo), Marcos TORRES (Brésil) et Blamassi TOURE (Côte d’Ivoire). 

Nous remercions l’appui constant de la Délégation interministérielle à l’accueil et à l’intégration des réfugiés et du Ministère de l’Europe et des Affaires étrangères, qui a permis, à ce jour, d’accueillir 57 défenseurs des droits de l’Homme au sein de l’Initiative Marianne, pour leur permettre de développer leurs projets en faveur des droits fondamentaux.
