Civil and political rights, fighting government repression and violence

Chrysostome KIRIMWINGABO is a member of the Ligue Burundaise des droits de l'homme Iteka, the leading human rights organization in Burundi. Despite the government's deregistration of his organization in 2015, Chrysostome continues his human rights activities with League members exiled in Uganda, through the production of weekly bulletins, monthly, quarterly and annual reports on human rights violations committed in Burundi. Its de-registration reduced the Ligue Iteka's work to monitoring, reporting and advocacy, but its work contributed to the opening of investigations by international structures and the imposition of sanctions. Its decentralized structure enables Chryosotome and his colleagues, in exile since the 2015 political crisis, to continue their work.
