MARDINI Zuhaier

Description

Zuhaier Mardini is a Syrian lawyer specializing in international public law. A law student at Damascus University in 2015, he was arrested by the Syrian regime because of his commitment to an intellectual revolution. This arrest prompted him to commit himself to human rights and freedom of expression. As a lawyer, he advises relatives of victims of arbitrary detention and provides legal support to women whose loved ones have disappeared. Due to the threats to which he is exposed, he goes into exile to Turkey in 2019, where he continues his legal support work with Syrian refugees. In order to support the social movement towards democracy, he bears witness to the Syrian legal-political situation, via the publication of articles on the violence of the Syrian regime and fundamentalist groups, and participation in conferences in France. He is also committed to helping the Syrian people in the post-conflict period and transitional justice.
